TASUED GOVERNING COUNCIL HOLDS INVESTITURE FOR THE VICE CHANCELLOR

It was another milestone in the history of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu was officially presented with the symbol of leadership as the 4th Vice Chancellor of the Institution with an Investiture organised in his honour by the Governing Council of the University.

The event was a convergence of people from all walks of life ranging from the academia, government parastatals, traditional institution, security agencies to religious institution, media and the business world- all came to honour the 4th and 1st indigenous Vice Chancellor of the University.

In his lecture at the epoch-making occasion, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro said he was excited to be part of this historical investiture ceremony of the forth (4th) Vice-Chancellor of the Institution. He described the investiture as being unique and historic in the young but fast growing University "because it is first time an internal person would emerge as the Vice Chancellor of the University after advertisement and due process in line with the extant law without any bias and sentiment. I want to, once again, congratulate the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi A. Arigbabu on this well-deserved appointment", he added.

Prof. Bamiro further described the Vice Chancellor as a man of clear vision who will move the University to greater heights.

"There is no doubt that the situation in this University is indeed very promising and quite encouraging but there will still be hard decisions to take from time to time. Our Vice Chancellor has already demonstrated at this early stage of his administration, that he is ready for the hard decisions to achieve the vision and goals of the University", he enthused.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu in his address noted that TASUED stood tall as a referral centre and centre of excellence in pedagogy and andragogy.

According to him, the University remains the only University in Nigeria today, where students go on 6 months teaching practice with a view to sharpening the pedagogic skills of pre-service teachers. "We operate a five-College structure and today we are the only University that has a dedicated College of Vocational and Technology Education. This is part of our response to the imperatives of the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS), the Millenium Development Goals (MDG), sustainable Development Goals SDG and Education for All (EFA)", he added.

Prof. Arigbabu, therefore, unveiled his vision for the next five years for the University which was aptly captured as follows: to make TASUED a centre of excellence; improve on academic programmes; further develop the postgraduate programme; facilitate alumni/endowment contribution and partnership; improve on ICT; establish smart classrooms; improve on funding/resource management; focus on staff and student welfare and library improvement among others.
